Urgent Request for Public Comment on Clos de la Tech Winery
The Clos de la Tech winery/vineyard development (CDLT) had planned to plant 15 acres of steep slopes directly above the main water supply for Cuesta La Honda, in the Woodhams Creek drainage.
Recently, CDLT proposed a lot line adjustment with an adjacent neighbor, such that CDLT would gain 15 acres to plant in Langley Creek drainage, and abandon plans to plant in Woodhams Creek drainage. This proposed lot line adjustment will soon be up for review by the San Mateo County Planning Commission. The Guild supports this action, as it decreases the risk to our water supply.
The change in plans also changes the proposed scope of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) which is still pending, and required to allow CDLT a Use Permit to construct a winery above La Honda. Concerns remain about watershed-wide impacts, surface and groundwater depletion/quality issues, visual, noise, and lighting impacts of the CDLT project, and County-wide impact of the proposed increased production caps for wineries in San Mateo County (a five-fold increase). A copy of the draft EIR is attached.
Public comment on the revised EIR scope is required by September 22, 2007.
