DPB Mitigation
History and status as of August 2010
Since monitoring was first required in 2004, the Guild has been out of compliance with State and Federal regulations limiting the levels of trihalomethanes (THM’s) in drinking water. THM’s are created when the disinfectant chlorine reacts with organic substances in raw water. These byproducts are of concern because they have been shown to increase rates of cancer and birth defects in laboratory animals and are classified as probably human carcinogens.
